Using a Person-Centred Approach to Caring focuses on the way a Person Centred Approach (as devised by Carl Rogers) can be offered to service users so as to enable them to feel their views and opinions are heard and that the service you offer them has a particular focus that is individual to them.

It also helps staff members to offer a Person-Centred Approach to each of their colleagues - as one of Carl Rogers' beliefs was it has to start with 'me' and then reach out to others. Or as Stephen Covey says in his writings, "Seek first to understand then to be understood".

Learn how Maslow's Hierarchy of Need can be applied to service users to help them to move from feeling they have no control to being able to influence how they live their lives and choose appropriate ways of achieving their own level of 'self-actualisation'.
